Founder & eSIM analyst

I founded eSIM Deals. I compare travel eSIM plans, prices and promo codes from tracked provider catalogues - not from slogans.

I founded eSIM Deals because English-speaking travellers still get pushed into three defaults for Japan: switch on a “Roam abroad” add-on from EE, Vodafone or Three; queue for a Wi-Fi egg at Narita; or tap the first marketplace eSIM in a Google result. Each can be right. None is automatically cheapest. The same method applies to every other country sheet in the catalogue.

Background

I am a developer and SEO consultant. Too many trips with a usable connection left to chance pushed me to put travel eSIM catalogues on one scale: coverage, duration, hotspot, checkout price after a tracked promo. Not a sales script.

How I compare

Scores on this site are catalogue signals: data, duration, named networks when the provider publishes them, hotspot, 5G, checkout price after a tracked promo code. They are not mate reviews and not speed tests from a hotel balcony.

EU “roam like at home” does not cover Japan. The UK left that framework entirely: EE, Vodafone UK and Three sell extra-EEA / rest-of-world passes whose useful-GB price often blows past a prepaid travel eSIM after a few days - especially when tethering is throttled in the small print. Ofcom-style consumer rights do not freeze those wholesale costs.

We default to eSIM

On eSIM Deals the default is not “it depends.” Unlocked phone that takes an eSIM → buy a travel eSIM. No deposit, no locker, no Narita counter. A Wi-Fi egg only wins if some screens cannot swallow a QR: a teenager’s tablet, a Switch, an MDM work phone, or laptop tethering you refuse to run through the handset battery.

That is why country sheets put the named local network (Docomo, au, SoftBank in Japan) and hotspot rules ahead of the app logo. An aggregator plan with no network on the plan page is a gap, not a feature.

What I will not claim

I will not crown a permanent “best Japanese network.” NTT Docomo, KDDI au and SoftBank carry most consumer coverage; an aggregator eSIM is not the same as a domestic SoftBank shop plan in Shibuya. I also will not lock a sterling or euro price in a bio: catalogues move. Use the live comparator the week you fly.

If you want an influencer page, this is the wrong URL. If you want a method to weigh a UK/IE roam pass against an eSIM and a pocket Wi-Fi rental, that is the job.
