How we compare eSIM plan prices

Static markdown tables fossilize faster than airlines shuffle baggage fees. Our destination grids ingest partner catalogs where APIs exist so shoppers reorder plans themselves instead of trusting editorial screenshots frozen last Tuesday.

Commercial partnerships may fund hosting costs. They should never secretly reorder grids beyond what your selected sort exposes.

Live catalogs defeat stale hero screenshots

Feeds reconcile SKU churn faster than manual blog edits. Still assume minute-level drift during lightning promotions.

When manual listings temporarily plug gaps, editors timestamp revisions inline.

Normalizing apples-to-apples signals

Price-per-GB math ignores hotspot carve-outs. Always expand detail drawers before trusting headline cents.

Validity calendars sometimes exclude activation delays baked into MVNO FAQs.

Currency toggles vs PSP settlement

Displayed currencies approximate shopper locales. Issuer FX spreads still bite.

VAT/GST hints vary by corridor; authoritative totals remain checkout receipts.

Affiliate relationships & incentives

Outbound commerce links may earn commissions supporting editorial QA.

Sort defaults prioritize traveler-controlled knobs (price, data, duration), not undisclosed sponsorship ladders.

Sponsored placements on destination heroes are clearly labelled as Sponsored and do not alter organic sorting modes (cheapest, best price/GB, longest validity, unlimited).

Data sources

Direct provider APIs where available, partner catalog feeds, and manual verification when feeds omit promo terms or network labels.

Provider facts are reviewed monthly; promo codes are re-verified at least monthly.

Refresh frequency

API and partner feeds typically refresh every few hours depending on the partner.

Destination pages revalidate daily so plan counts, cheapest prices and provider tallies stay aligned site-wide.

How ranking modes work

Recommended / Sponsored hero slots may include partner placements labelled Sponsored. They are not an organic best-overall score.

Cheapest sorts paid plans by displayed EUR price.

Best price/GB = price_eur / data_gb for paid plans with at least 1 GB (unlimited excluded).

Unlimited treats null or -1 data_gb as unlimited and ranks by lowest absolute price.

eSIMDeals provider score

An eSIMDeals score (for example 4.7/5) is an editorial composite — not an AggregateRating from user reviews and not a field speed test.

Weights: Pricing 30%, Coverage 20%, Catalog 20%, Features 15%, Support 10%, Transparency 5%. We do not emit AggregateRating schema for these scores.

SKU churn & outage contingencies

Upstream outages blank grids briefly. We retry exponential backoff rather than fabricating placeholders.

Users should screenshot anomalies plus timestamps when requesting corrections.

Reporting mismatches responsibly

Include destination slug, provider name, observed cart total, and browser timezone. That context helps tier-2 escalation.
