Best mobile networks in Thailand (2026): AIS, True, dtac and eSIM

At Suvarnabhumi the three SIM counters often sit side by side. AIS, True, dtac. The eSIM is already on the phone if you scanned it on home Wi-Fi. Same masts. Different ticket.
We do not crown a “best Thai network” once and for all. We read the network on the plan sheet. An aggregator with no AIS, TrueMove H or dtac written down is a gap, not a feature.
Prices move. For today’s plans: the Thailand eSIM comparison.
AIS, TrueMove H, dtac: who actually carries the radio
Thailand is not a ten-brand market. Mass-market coverage sits on two groups:
- AIS (Advanced Info Service). Often the widest reach outside cities. Islands, northern roads, parks, small towns.
- True Corporation. TrueMove H + dtac merger (2023). In cities and on the tourist corridor, speed holds. eSIM sheets still print both names.
NT (National Telecom) exists. Travel eSIMs almost never use it. Do not wait for NT on Airalo or Holafly.
In 2026, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi and Koh Samui hold on 4G, with 5G in dense areas. The gap opens further out: Koh Lipe off Walking Street, inland Koh Lanta, ferries, roads to Pai, Isaan. There, the network name matters.
This is not a speed test from a resort pool. Same method as Docomo / au / SoftBank in Japan: read the local operator before the app logo.
What that changes for a Thailand eSIM
A travel eSIM is not the local plan sold in an AIS shop. It is a profile that attaches to one (sometimes two) authorised partners.
Practical consequences:
- The phone does not pick AIS vs True at every mast, unless the plan says so.
- “Local network” on a homepage is not enough. Open the sheet: AIS, TrueMove H, dtac, 5G, hotspot.
- Two “Thailand 10 GB” packs from two brands can sit on two different radios.
That is why we pick the eSIM as soon as the phone takes it, and we refuse to rank a brand with no named network. No deposit, no queue, no plastic SIM to jam into a dual-SIM iPhone. Pocket WiFi and a tourist SIM stay plan B: eSIM vs local SIM, eSIM vs Pocket WiFi.

Airalo
Network on the plan sheet (often AIS / True / dtac)
Large marketplace. Read AIS or True on the Thailand plan, not the app logo.

Holafly
Network on the plan sheet
“Unlimited” pitch: fair use and hotspot often capped. A poor pick if you tether a laptop all day.

Saily
Network on the plan sheet
Tracked catalogue like the others. Open network, 5G and hotspot before you pay.
Nomad, Yesim, GigSky, GoMoWorld, Airhub, Orange Travel: same rule. Open all of them in the Thailand table. No forever favourite. Today’s promo is checked at checkout, not in a screenshot.
Comparison
Thailand eSIM plans
Checkout price, named network, 5G, hotspot. Ranked from the tracked catalogue.
Which network to aim for by itinerary
Bangkok + temples + rooftops, 6 days. All three hold. Take the eSIM whose checkout price and hotspot fit, once the phone is compatible.
Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, tourist islands. Still strong on AIS and True. 4G on busy beaches is not the issue. The ferry is.
North (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pai) or thinner islands. AIS first, if the sheet writes it. A “True only” eSIM is not silly in town. It is weaker on a mountain road.
Digital nomad, café in Bangkok or coworking in Chiang Mai. Local network matters less than hotspot and fair use. Read the hotspot guide before an unlimited “for the laptop”.
Install the profile before the flight. Turn data roaming on the eSIM only. Keep the UK line for Monzo / Starling / 2FA texts. Switch off EE, Vodafone or Three data roaming: Thailand is extra-EEA, and that toggle is how people buy a rest-of-world pass they did not mean to. Detail: Thailand roaming 2026.
How to read a Thailand eSIM sheet
Same method as the rest of the catalogue.
- Named local network (AIS, TrueMove H, dtac) or named multi-network.
- Duration vs trip dates. The clock starts at install or first connection: read the line.
- Hotspot: allowed, capped, banned. An unlimited with no published tethering GB is a family trap.
- 5G: useful in Bangkok, not an argument on a 4G island.
- Checkout price after a promo code.
An aggregator can sit on AIS one month and True the next. Hence the live comparison, not a 2024 screenshot.
Verdict: local network first, brand second
If the phone takes eSIM, buy a Thailand eSIM. Pick the plan that names AIS when you leave the cities, True or dtac if you stay on the corridor, and a readable hotspot if a laptop travels.
We do not crown AIS, Holafly or Airalo for eternity. We cross coverage, duration, hotspot and checkout price. Airport queues, Pocket WiFi and UK roaming sit in the other Thailand sheets.
