Best mobile networks in Morocco (2026): IAM, Orange, inwi and eSIM

Morocco does not have a “best network” you can stamp on a thumbnail. It has three national operators, and a travel eSIM that is never the mast itself. It borrows Maroc Telecom (IAM), Orange Maroc or inwi.
Unlocked phone that takes an eSIM profile: buy the eSIM. No queue at Mohammed V or Menara, no deposit, no plastic to return. The network is the next question, on the plan sheet, not on the app logo.
This piece does not freeze Mbps or dirhams. Catalogues and rest-of-world add-ons move. Today’s prices: the Morocco eSIM comparison.
The three mobile operators in Morocco in 2026
Mass-market coverage sits on three masts. No fourth national MNO.
| Operator | What it carries | What it changes for eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Maroc Telecom (IAM) | Widest coverage, including Atlas, rural, some desert roads | The name to look for off Casablanca–Marrakech |
| Orange Maroc | Cities, 5G already listed in 100+ cities, many travel eSIMs | Orange Travel and Airalo often publish it. Read hotspot and 5G |
| inwi | Urban challenger, local prepaid data often generous | Rarely the lead network on a travel eSIM. A blank sheet is not “all three” |
I will not crown any of these three a permanent “best Moroccan network.” An aggregator eSIM is not the Jawal, Yo or tic tac plan on a Marrakech shop wall. Same kind of mast, different contract, different hotspot, usually no Moroccan number.
What the network changes for a Morocco eSIM
Three points, every time.
- The name on the sheet. “Morocco” alone is a gap. IAM, Orange Maroc or inwi is information. Orange Travel writes Orange Maroc on its local packs. GigSky publishes IAM on several plans. Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, Yesim, Ubigi, GoMoWorld, eSIMo: open the Morocco plan, not the home page.
- Local or roaming. Some eSIMs attach to local infrastructure. Others hairpin abroad. Both show bars. Speed, Maps in the medina and hotspot do not behave the same.
- Hotspot. Unlimited with unpublished tethering is a trap for a laptop. Read the hotspot guide before you buy “for the whole family.”
Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Fès, Tangier, Agadir: all three hold. Medinas (thick walls, alleys) are still where some plans drop. That is not an IAM-versus-Orange law. It is the sheet, the band, the handset.
High Atlas, kasbah road, dunes, villages between Tiznit and Tan-Tan: Maroc Telecom first. A city Orange pack does not catch an IAM eSIM in a pass with no postcard 5G.
Comparison
Morocco eSIM plans: filter the network
Checkout price, named network, 5G, hotspot. Logos do not rank.
Maroc Telecom (IAM): the default off the big cities
Maroc Telecom, also written IAM, is still the operator travel sheets name once the itinerary leaves the Casa–Rabat–Marrakech triangle. That is not a promise of 400 Mbps in a mountain riad. It is the most continuous grid.
GigSky leans on that on several Morocco packs: named IAM. Useful if you push a laptop, or if Ouarzazate, Chefchaouen or Merzouga is on the list.
An IAM eSIM is still not a Jawal postpaid line. Data, often no number. 2FA texts: keep EE / Vodafone / Three on for SMS (Monzo, Starling, HMRC), data off.
IAM also sells a visitor eSIM of its own. ID, activation on Moroccan territory. That is not the same product as a marketplace eSIM bought at home.
Orange Maroc: cities, 5G, and a lot of travel eSIMs
Orange Maroc (formerly Méditel) is the second mast. Dense in cities, commercial 5G since November 2025, partner on packs sold as local.
Orange Travel sells Morocco eSIMs on Orange Maroc, with hotspot listed on those packs. Airalo also publishes Orange on its local “Choukran” plans. GB and duration move: open the comparison, not a 2025 screenshot.
Orange 5G is already listed on 100+ cities. Useful in Casa, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier. Not a criterion if the phone does not take 5G, or if the eSIM plan stays on 4G on the sheet.
Other brands can land on Orange Maroc too. The rule does not change: the plan’s network line, not the “unlimited Morocco” banner.
inwi: the third, not the eSIM default
inwi is a real MNO, not a ghost MVNO. In cities, 4G holds. On local prepaid, data bundles are often the price argument. Off the cities, the grid is shorter than IAM.
Few plans on the Morocco comparison put it first. UPeSIM names it on some packs. If a sheet writes it, read the area too. If it writes nothing, do not assume inwi, or IAM, or Orange.
For a plastic SIM at the airport, inwi is still a legitimate city-break pick. That is not a reason to skip eSIM if the phone takes it.
How travel eSIMs attach (and why everyone is in the table)
The comparison ranks catalogues, not mates. Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, GigSky, Yesim, Ubigi, Orange Travel, GoMoWorld, eSIMo: if a Morocco plan is tracked, it can enter the table.
What I will not do: stamp a “best Morocco eSIM provider 2026” badge on one brand. Affiliate commissions do not change the ranking. Named network, duration, hotspot and checkout price after a tracked promo do.

Orange Travel
Orange Maroc 4G/5G on the sheet
Local packs that name Orange Maroc. Read hotspot. This is not a Yo / Yoxo shop plan.

GigSky
IAM on several Morocco packs
IAM named when the catalogue publishes it. Read 5G and fair use. Not a Jawal shop plan.

Airalo
Orange on local Choukran packs
Wide marketplace. Read the Morocco plan MNO and hotspot, not the app logo.

Holafly
Network on the plan sheet
“Unlimited” pitch: fair use and hotspot often capped. Poor pick if you tether a PC all day.

Saily
Network on the plan sheet
Same rule as other aggregators: named MNO, 5G, hotspot. A NordVPN logo does not replace the network line.
Nomad, Yesim, Ubigi, GoMoWorld, eSIMo and the other Morocco packs in the catalogue read the same way. No free pass. No deliberate omission. If the provider publishes the network, we show it. If it does not, that is a gap.
Tool
Does the phone take eSIM?
iPhone, Galaxy, Pixel: check the model before you buy a QR tied to IAM or Orange Maroc.
Network, eSIM, local SIM and roaming: who wins
The Moroccan network does not erase the other choices. It lights them.
- eSIM, compatible phone: default. Install on home Wi-Fi. EE / Vodafone / Three data off: Morocco is extra-EEA. UK rest-of-world day passes are a separate product. Detail: Morocco roaming 2026.
- Local SIM (airport, IAM / Orange / inwi shop): Moroccan number, sometimes voice. Passport, ANRT queue, plastic. Useful if you stay weeks and want a local 06. Otherwise the eSIM wins. See eSIM vs local SIM.
- Pocket WiFi: tablets, locked phone. The rental writes a network too (often IAM). Same radio logic.
- UK roam add-on: 48 hours can still win. After that, useful GB often costs more than an eSIM. Recalculate the week you fly.

How to pick the eSIM network from the itinerary
Marrakech + Essaouira, 8 days, unlocked iPhone. eSIM. IAM, Orange or inwi: all three pass in town and on the nearby coast. Take the pack whose sheet writes the MNO, hotspot if a laptop comes, and checkout price (promo codes).
Atlas + desert road trip. eSIM that writes Maroc Telecom / IAM. Not a “Morocco 5G” banner with no operator.
Family, two iPhones, two tablets. eSIM on the phones. Network from the itinerary. Tablets: hotspot only if the pack says so, otherwise Pocket WiFi whose listing names the same kind of network.
Locked phone or no eSIM. No magic QR. Local SIM or router. Still read the network.
