Internet in Morocco 2026: how travellers stay online

Staying online in Morocco in 2026 is no longer “buy the first card at the airport.” Five doors: eSIM, local SIM, Pocket WiFi, UK roaming, riad Wi-Fi. If the phone is unlocked and takes an eSIM profile, buy the eSIM. The rest is plan B, not travel folklore.
This piece does not freeze a price. For today’s figures: the Morocco eSIM comparison.
Default plan: a Morocco eSIM before the flight
Install the QR on home Wi-Fi. Turn data on at Mohammed V, Menara, Fès or Agadir. Keep EE / Vodafone / Three for SMS 2FA. Cut their data: Morocco is extra-EEA.
Read the network on the sheet: Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc or inwi. Not the Airalo, Holafly, Saily or Orange Travel logo. The three masts: operators article.
Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, GigSky, Yesim, Ubigi, Orange Travel, GoMoWorld, eSIMo: if a Morocco plan is in the catalogue, it can enter the table. No sacred brand. Checkout price, duration, hotspot, named MNO.

Saily
Network on the plan sheet
Aggregator. MNO, 5G, hotspot before the NordVPN logo.

eSIMo
Network on the plan sheet
Morocco packs in the catalogue. Same read as the others: sheet, not home.

GoMoWorld
Network on the plan sheet
Few Morocco plans tracked. Open them anyway if dates and GB match.

Nomad
Network on the plan sheet
Fixed-data packs and some unlimited. Read fair use and hotspot before you tether.

Riad, café, airport Wi-Fi: a complement
Hotels, riads, cafés, coworking: Wi-Fi exists, especially in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, Fès, Agadir. Decent speeds in town. In the medina, walls eat the signal. The password of the day is not a plan.
Treat it like convenience-store Wi-Fi in Japan: bonus, not the spine. Maps between two riads, a Grand Taxi, a CTM bus: you need data.
The airport has Wi-Fi. Do not count on it to install an eSIM at 23:00 if the captive portal sticks. Install before.
Local SIM, Pocket WiFi, roaming: the real plan B
Local SIM. IAM, Orange, inwi. Passport, ANRT, kiosk. Moroccan number. Useful if you stay weeks or the phone refuses eSIM. Otherwise, wasted queue.
Pocket WiFi. City Wifi, Pocket WiFi Morocco, Rent A Phone. Mostly Marrakech, deposit, riad delivery. Tablets, locked phone. Not the default for two iPhones.
Roaming. EE, Vodafone, Three extra-EEA / rest-of-world. 48 hours can still win. A week of Maps and stories: open the comparison before you turn UK data on.
How many GB, which duration, which hotspot
Maps + WhatsApp + a few stories: a few GB over 7 days is enough for many travellers. Heavy stories, TikTok, video calls, iCloud backups: it climbs. Size it with the calculator.
Laptop hotspot: read the line, not the word “unlimited.” Holafly and other unlimited plans often cap tethering. Hotspot guide.
5G: Orange and IAM sell it in cities since late 2025. Useful if the plan and the phone take it. In the medina and mountains, 4G still decides.
Traveller scenarios 2026
Marrakech city break, 5 days, iPhone. eSIM. Orange, IAM or inwi: all three pass. Checkout price, promo codes.
Marrakech–Fès–Chefchaouen, 10 days, couple. Two eSIMs. IAM named if you leave the tarmac. Riad Wi-Fi at night.
Atlas + dunes, 12 days, Pixel + child’s tablet. IAM eSIM on the Pixel. Tablet: hotspot if the pack says so, otherwise IAM Pocket WiFi or a local SIM.
36-hour Tangier hop from Spain. 48 h roaming can win. Beyond that, eSIM. Recalculate.
Remote work from a riad in Essaouira. eSIM with published hotspot, or two packs. Patio Wi-Fi is not an SLA.

Night-before checklist
- eSIM compatibility.
- Morocco plan on the comparison, named network, hotspot if needed.
- QR installed, eSIM data still off.
- EE / Vodafone / Three data off. Voice and SMS kept.
- Offline maps (medina, Atlas).
- If the handset refuses eSIM: SIM or Pocket WiFi, not a magic QR.
